Cookie & Telemetry Policy
Last Updated:
1. Purpose of This Policy
This Policy explains what cookies, web beacons, and telemetry technologies are, which of them SOAVM Tech uses on the Website, why we use them, what data they generate, and how you can control them.
Cookies and similar technologies constitute the processing of personal data where they can identify you directly or indirectly. Our use of them is governed by:
- The EU ePrivacy Directive (2002/58/EC) as implemented in national law, read with the GDPR;
- The Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA) and NDPR 2019;
- The CCPA/CPRA and CalOPPA in California.
The short version: we use a small number of cookies and telemetry signals to keep the site working and secure, and to understand how it performs. We do not serve advertisements, we do not use advertising cookies, and we do not sell or share your data for cross-context behavioural advertising.
2. What Cookies, Web Beacons, and Telemetry Are
2.2 Similar Technologies
- Web beacons (pixels / clear GIFs): tiny, usually invisible image files embedded in a page or email. When loaded, they signal that the page was viewed or the email opened. We would use them only to measure engagement with our own communications — never for third-party ad tracking.
- Local storage and session storage: browser storage mechanisms that hold data locally on your device. Functionally similar to cookies, but not transmitted with every request.
- Software Development Kits (SDKs) and JavaScript tags: small scripts that collect usage and performance signals in the browser.
- Server-side logs: records automatically generated by our web servers, CDN, and web application firewall on each request — including IP address, timestamp, requested URL, response code, and user-agent string. These are not cookies and cannot be switched off, because they are intrinsic to serving and securing a web page.
- Device and browser characteristics: browser type and version, operating system, language, screen size, and similar attributes reported by your browser.
2.3 Telemetry
Telemetry is the automated collection and transmission of measurement data from a running system to a monitoring platform. On the Website, telemetry covers traces (the path of a request through our stack), metrics (numeric measurements such as latency percentiles and error rates), logs (structured event records), and real user monitoring (performance as experienced in your actual browser).
Telemetry is oriented toward the health of the system, not the identity of the individual. We collect it in aggregated or pseudonymised form wherever technically feasible.
3. Categories We Use
| Category | Used on the Website? | Consent needed? |
|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Yes | No — required to deliver what you asked for |
| Preferences | Yes — theme choice only | No — set only when you use the toggle |
| Analytics and performance | Not at present | Yes, before any is added |
| Advertising and cross-site tracking | Never | — |
4. What the Website Stores Today
4.1 The complete list of storage the Website sets on your device:
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| soavm-theme | First-party local storage | Remembers whether you chose light, dark, or system theme | Until you clear site data |
4.2 The Website sets no cookies of its own at present. Our hosting and security providers may set short-lived, strictly necessary cookies to route traffic and block malicious requests; these contain no advertising identifiers.
4.3 Clicking an external link (for example, to a social network) takes you to a third-party site that applies its own cookie policy.
5. Telemetry We Collect
5.1 We collect server-side telemetry only: request logs, error rates, and latency metrics from our hosting and CDN, used to keep the Website available and to investigate security incidents.
5.2 We do not currently run real user monitoring or analytics scripts in your browser. Log data is retained as set out in our Privacy Policy.
6. Consent
6.1 Because everything in Section 4 is strictly necessary or set at your request, the Website does not currently show a consent banner.
6.2 If we introduce any analytics or other non-essential technology, we will ask for your consent before it runs, make it as easy to refuse as to accept, and update this Policy first.
6.3 We honour Global Privacy Control signals as a valid opt-out where the law recognises them.
7. How to Control Cookies and Storage
7.1 You can view, block, and delete cookies and site data in your browser settings — usually under Privacy or Site Settings. Blocking strictly necessary storage may affect how the Website works.
7.2 To reset your theme choice, clear site data for this domain, or remove the soavm-theme entry from local storage.
8. Changes to This Policy
8.1 We will update this Policy whenever the technologies in Section 4 change. The “Last Updated” date shows the current version.
